Ever want to get away for a weekend? I know I do! Here are a few of many places you can go that is perfect for a weekend getaway. However, these are probably easiest to get to if you already live on the East Coast.
Newport, RI
This oceanfront town is perfect for a long weekend. Want a little bit of the ocean, beach bars, marinas and history? Newport offers all of this.
They have the Newport Mansions
I have been on a tour of the The Elms, The Breakers and the Rosecliff (where they filmed the original Great Gatsby).
Fun Fact: The Breakers has a room that has platinum paneling in one of their rooms!
They also have plenty of beautiful beaches, restaurants and a cliff walk.
Lincoln, NH
Whether it’s winter or summer, this quaint town has a lot to do.
Loon Mountain for example, has a gondola ride to the top of their mountain with lookout points and hiking trails. You can also go skiing in the winter.
If you read my past post, you know that Alpine Adventures (http://www.alpinezipline.com/) offers great ziplining and off roading tours!
They also have moose tours, snowmobile rentals, ATV tours, I also recommend going to Flume Gorge. Flume Gorge is a hiking path through the woods where you see waterfalls and basins all made from glaciers.
St. Augustine, FL
Ever hear of Ponce de Leon? This is where he first settled. That’s right! The Fountain of Youth is there in one of the oldest cities in the country. It is very Spanish influenced in its architecture so if you like the Mediterranean this is a great alternative.
It is right on the eastern coast of Florida, so there are plenty of beaches to go to. They have ghost tours, the first wooden school house, golf courses, a beautiful lighthouse, Fort Matanzas , an Alligator Farm and many tours of some of the oldest buildings in the country.
Boston, MA
If you like history, there is the place to go! With numerous museums, Fenway Park, the Public Garden and the Freedom Trail, this city has endless attractions to offer. Although there aren’t too many beaches in the city, there are many options for sunset or dinner cruises. Like to shop? Head to Newbury St. Like Italian food? Go to the North End! Like sports? You are in the right place. Boston is one of the top cities for sports teams.
Key West, FL
This island is perfect for a long weekend. There aren’t many beaches but there is still a lot to do. They have plenty of water sports, shopping, restaurants and bars. I recommend renting mopeds, going to Kermit’s and getting key lime pie, the Ultimate Island Jetski tour, the Commotion on the Ocean catamaran sunset tour, eating at Mangia Mangia and going to the Southernmost Point in the continental U.S.
Bermuda
Located off the coast of the Carolinas, this beautiful island is only a 2-3 hour airplane ride away. With endless things to do, this island is perfect to for a long vacation or even just a few days at a time.
I recommend also renting mopeds as you cannot rent a car, going golfing (Bermuda has more golf courses than anywhere else in the world) to their famous beaches (Horseshoe Bay, Tobacco Bay, Church Bay, Warwick Long Bay, Elbow Beach, etc.) and to St. George.
St. George is a historic little town that is also the capital with plenty of shopping and restaurant options. The island also houses the crystal and fantasy caves, an unfinished cathedral, St. Peters Church, a lighthouse where you can see the whole island, water sports, a rum cake factory, a glass blowing factory, Dolphin Quest, and numerous other activities (a post to come on these activities later).
