I stand by the rule that you should talk to people while you are on vacation. Be friendly!
I went on a cruise years ago and met a girl who is close to my age. We started talking and realized we lived in the same state and not only that but within a 30 minute drive of each other! We hung out the entire cruise and oddly enough our parents met each other sitting by the pool…a complete coincidence but, we all would have dinner together at night. We made sure to keep in touch after the vacation was over and we are still friends and see each other frequently! It’s been 7 years! You honestly don’t know where you are going to meet lifelong friends.
Meeting people on vacation doesn’t mean you have to spend time with them 24/7 but you never know what might come out of it and it’s nice to have a friendly face you can recognize. At the minimum, say hi and have small talk when you pass by them in the cruise or hotel hallway. They might have done a cool excursion or activity that day and can recommend some activities!
